Congratulations to Startup India on the achievements listed in their latest newsletter !!

We want to congratulate Startup India (Govt Initiative) for the achievements listed in their latest newsletter – we have been helping them for years and there is no arguing that Startup India is a great initiative and members get many benefits – read about our representation & our article (step 3) on additional benefits of registering with them.

Some highlights from their newsletter –

  • India’s entrepreneurial spirit is strong – Startup India recently reached the milestone of 50,000 recognized startups (atleast 1 in 620 districts, all 36 states & UTs of India).
  • Startup India has supported the startup ecosystem so effectively that the pace at which opportunities and startups have been recognized is accelerating (first 10000 startups were recognized in 808 days, last 10000 startups were recognized in 108 days).
  • For years one of their support programs has been The Startup States Ranking Framework.
    • They have also supported equitable growth because 45% of startups have atleast 1 woman director or woman entrepreneur.
    • Since 2016 there have been 47 regulatory reforms to make business growth easier for startups – creating 5.49 lakh jobs.
  • One of the major success stories is how 73000 startups have used the GeM portal to procure INR3000cr in stuff.
  • They support India’s innovation culture by helping procure 561 patents.
  • Their National Award recognizes startups providing broader social impact.
    • In Apr 2021 Shri Piyush Goyal (Minister of Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs & Food & Public Distribution and Textiles) also talked to the awardees – Startup Association of India has been working on his suggestion that innovation & entrepreneurial spirit needs to flow to Tier 2 & 3 cities for a more resilient and reimagined India – see our recent update for an example of our work.

  • Startup India has been doing a fantastic job supporting startups with their various funds – these allow startups to grow past the PoC stage – where our partners prefer them to be.
    • In Jan, Hon’ble Prime Minister announced the Startup India Seed Fund Scheme (SISFS) during Prarambh: Startup India International Summit. With INR 945crore for early-stage startups.
      • Incubators and startups can apply throughout the year and the Experts Advisory Committee (EAC) will select.
      • When it is launched we expect them to operationalize the scheme as follows –

Startup Association of India - Startup India Seed Fund Scheme

  • Their fund-of-funds scheme was launched in 2016 and has impacted 300 startups across the country.
  • Our funding partner (Ankurit Capital – aka Venture Gurukool Capability Fund) is one of the investing networks that have also helped them succeed.
